The Joy of Eating in Italy

Italian WaiterThere’s no doubt that travelers, especially Americans, have a strong love affair with Italy. It seems most travelers I meet are going to Italy and it continues to be Europe’s top travel destination each year. A huge part of traveling to Italy, involves enjoying all of the great dishes, recipes and food that Italians actually eat. Eating in Italy has always been pure joy for me. I believe it is one of the best ways to get better acquainted with Italian culture. Italians, as with everything else, are very passionate about what they eat, where they eat and how they eat it. The joy of eating in Italy first begins with a couple of explanations. Understanding the basics on the various types of places to eat, how to order and pitfalls to avoid, will help any traveler have a more enjoyable time eating in Italy.  READ MORE

Foreign Transactions & Currency Abroad

Indo RupiahMy first travel chore when I arrive at a destination is to get local currency. Unless I need cash immediately, either for a taxi or public transport, I usually wait until I get to my hotel. Pre-booking a car or taxi in advance can make your arrival a smooth and effortless process. For example, Red Cab or Exclusive Airports, are my go-to airport private car hire services for Europe when I need them. But when I need to get cash, either at the airport, near my hotel or anywhere on the road, I use bank owned ATM’s and avoid ATM’s or cash machines owned by foreign currency exchange companies. You will see a lot of ATM’s at the airport but which is the best to use? READ MORE

Lake Bled, Slovenia

Sunset on Lake Bled. The lake during magic hour.

Sunset on Lake Bled. The lake during magic hour.

A scenic forty-five minute drive from Slovenia’s capital will take you to one of the most serene and romantic places that is yet to be overrun by American travelers: Lake Bled. Surrounded by the majestic Julian Alps, the lake and the tiny town of Bled offer a chance to relax and enjoy the natural wonders of Slovenia. With a magical island that seems to float in the middle of the lake, a fairy tale castle perched on a hilltop and a handful of eateries, visiting Bled will inject a dose of relaxation into any itinerary. In my case, Lake Bled was a perfect foil to urban and sight-seeing heavy Vienna. Bled can also be easily reached from Italy or southern Austria. Bled is romantic, slow-paced, breathtaking, full of genuine people and absolutely worth a visit.  READ MORE
