Palace Hotel Exterior, Como, ItalyThe Palace Hotel in Lake Como, Italy is a grand 19th century Art Nouveau style mansion right on the lake with 100 rooms. It is the sister hotel of Hotel Barchetta Excelsior and managed by the über exclusive Villa D’Este. Some of the rooms have good views of the lake (mine did not). They are light, tastefully decorated with rich fabrics, large beds and big windows. Overall, the vibe is comfortable and romantic, offering peace and tranquillity. All rooms in the hotel are “non-smoking” and located in either the modern or historic central wing. The rooms in the “modern” wing were noticeably larger. The hotel is conveniently located on the lake with the rest of the old town of Como just behind it. Walking to the funicular (for a quick jaunt to Brunate) or the Duomo and the center of Como is very easy. The lobby is spacious and the service was pleasant and professional. The delicious breakfast buffet was plentiful and served in the classically decorated Sala Magna. Garden Bar Cecco, located in the garden, has fantastic gelato!  Wifi is not free and sometimes unreliable.
